Language is what differentiates humans from any other species. We have developed very complicated, yet systematic, ways to communicate with each other through writing and speech. By learning new languages, one is exposed to many more opportunities. But, sometimes we tend to be very prideful and nationalistic, and see some languages or cultures as inferior to others. My question is: How can languages build bridges between communities and cultures, and promote understanding and tolerance? In its earliest developments, language was meant to connect people. I want to learn about how different languages can connect people and cultures.
This is a very big question and a very large concept to explore. I hope to start on a smaller scale, and to see how different experiences can help me better understand this question.
